Embracing Confidence In Your Clothes

Do you often find yourself slipping into the familair embrace of activewear, even when you’re not planning to hit the gym or go for a run? You’re so not alone. There’s something irresistible about chucking on my Lululemon tights, a baggy tee, comfy jersey, and a pair of trusty sneakers.

If you’re like me, it’s an easy habit to rely on activewear as our go-to outfit, which might lead to neglecting the rest of our wardrobe…. guilty!

Then there are the moments when I feel like I lack the time to focus on myself, to put on makeup, and choose a ‘stylish’ outfit. That’s where activewear comes in – it’s not only easy but for me, a safe choice … But, I believe that every one of us deserves to feel fantastic and exude confidence even when not in activewear.

You’ll often hear my Mum say, “Put on some lippy and any outfit looks great”. Unfortunately, I’m not a lipstick girl and rarely wear it. Plus lippy and activewear??? Lol, not quite the look I’m going for Mum. But I get her point – something as small as a touch of lippy can boost your confidence.

So, I’ve decided not to let my reliance on activewear prevent me from feeling confident in all the other fab clothes sitting in my wardrobe. Today, I’m taking a leap out of my comfort zone, and you might just catch me in GASP something other than active wear!

Feeling confident in what we wear can be a challenge for many, and that’s totally normal. Fashion can be a tough nut to crack, and I know firsthand that it’s okay to struggle with it.

Over the last five years, my sense of style has majorrrrrlllly evolved – thank you, motherhood! If you’ve been feeling a little down about your clothes lately, it’s time to take action sister!

Here are some pearls of wisdom that have been shared with me:

  • The number on the label doesn’t mean anything. Instead, choose clothes that fit your body the best. There’s no shame in wearing clothes that fit you perfectly.
  • While we are on the topic of clothes fitting – sell those clothes that have been sitting in your wardrobe (for how long!!!) that don’t fit you. You deserve to have a wardrobe you love AND fit.
  • Ditching activewear doesn’t mean ditching comfort. Look for fabrics that feel good against your skin and allow freedom of movement. Clothes that fit well and aren’t too tight or too loose will make you feel at ease throughout the day.
  • Wear colour! While black is a classic, don’t shy away from adding some vibrancy into your wardrobe. Wearing colours that make you feel good can instantly lift your mood and boost your confidence.
  • Seek help from a stylist or a fashion-savvy friend to help you in revamping your wardrobe. And don’t be afraid to ask for help when you’re out shopping.

When you discover what really suits you, you feel like a million bucks. It’s not just about looking good in clothes, but also FEELING good from the inside out.

I want to encourage you to exercise to feel good, not to fit into those pre-baby jeans. Embrace your body as it is, buy the jeans that fit you beautifully, rock them with confidence, and enjoy exercise as a mood booster.

Just as I say with fitness, put your lycra on and get moving. Now, it’s time to break free from the comfort of activewear and rediscover the joy of dressing up!
